The American Board of Standards is a leader in American

higher education accreditation!

Accreditation in America is a peer review process, not a function

of government.  ALL accrediting bodies are private,

nonprofit, membership associations.

The U. S. Department of Education (USDE) treats all accrediting bodies equally, favoring none.  Moreover,  the USDE does not

approve or accredit any schools.

The USDE does maintain a list of schools that participate in federal student loan programs.  This does not constitute accreditation.

The so-called six regional accrediting bodies have no more status or recognition than any other accrediting organization.
